I love a good DIY. I love to go online and browse through projects people do all by themselves. I get excited when I hear about how much money people save when they DIY. I've even dabbled in a few DIY projects myself and have made some fairly decent items as a result of my enthusiastic endeavor to get crafty. However, at the end of the day when I lay awake at night ruminating over my life, I can only come to one conclusion — I'm not very good at DIY. As much as I love the idea of it, I'm just not that crafty. As a matter of fact, what I am really good at is the opposite of DIY, namely, BIY (buy-it-yourself). I really get a chance to shine when I open up my laptop or pull out my phone and click a buy it now button. That's just who I am and I have accepted it … for the most part.
There are two things that I DIY fairly often. I have been known to make my own toothpaste and craft up my own baby wipes. It's quick and easy, saves a ton of money, and works better in some ways than what's at the store.
If you're interested, here are the recipes:
Toothpaste
6 tablespoons of coconut oil
6 tablespoons of baking soda
3 teaspoons of sea salt
10-20 drops of lavender oil
10 drops of eucalyptus oil
Mix together and put in a jar like this one.
Note: the consistency at first will be very liquid-like. Over time, in a few days, the product will harden. I use about a quarter size amount each time I brush.
I know what you're thinking . . . umm, why don't you just buy toothpaste? Well, honestly, I do. But I also use this as a chaser to my regular toothpaste. My mouth feels really clean and my teeth get bright white when I use this concoction consistently! Give it a go and see for yourself!
Baby Wipes
Get a paper towel roll and cut it in half (use a very sharp knife unless you plan on making this part of your workout)
Get a container like this one.
Shove the paper towel into the container.
In a small bowl mix,
1 cup of water
2 teaspoons of Dr. Bronner's
10 drops of essential oil of your choice (I use lavender)
Pour the mixture onto the roll in a circular motion trying to get as much of roll wet as possible.
Close the lid and place upside down for 5 minutes or so.
Open and take out the cardboard paper tubing.
Start using the paper towel roll from the inside out.
I hope that these DIY recipes can be useful for both bonafide DIYers as well as bonafide BIYers!
